Ricki Pamela Lake (born September 21, 1968)[ane] is an American actress, goggle box presenter and producer. She is known for her lead role as Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 film Hairspray, for which she received a nomination for the Contained Spirit Honour for Best Female Atomic number 82. She is also known for her talk show, Ricki Lake, which was broadcast internationally from September 1993 until May 2004.[2] [3] [4] When the show debuted, Lake was 24 and credited as being the youngest person to host a syndicated talk evidence at the time. Lake was born in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, to a secular Jewish family.[5] [6] Her parents are Jill (a homemaker) and Barry Lake (a chemist),[one] though Lake was largely brought up by her paternal grandmother, Sylvia Lake, until Sylvia'due south decease in 1978.

Lake made her film debut as Tracy Turnblad, the lead character in John Waters's 1988 cult archetype Hairspray.[7] Lake also starred in other Waters films including Cry-Baby (with Johnny Depp and Susan Tyrrell), Cecil B. Demented (with Melanie Griffith and Stephen Dorff), and Serial Mom (with Kathleen Turner and Sam Waterston). She starred in Mrs. Winterbourne with Shirley MacLaine and Brendan Fraser, Cabin Boy, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Cookie, and Inside Monkey Zetterland.

She joined the cast of the Vietnam War drama series China Beach as a Reddish Cross volunteer, Holly "the Donut Dolly" Pelegrino, for the show's tertiary flavour. She besides had a recurring role on the CBS sitcom The King of Queens as Doug'southward sister Stephanie. She guest-starred on television receiver series including Drop Dead Diva and a vox role on Rex of the Hill, and starred in the television set motion-picture show Baby Cakes. In Oct 2007, Lake appeared in the Lifetime TV flick Matters of Life and Dating. Personal life [edit]

Lake has discussed drastic weight changes in interviews, including swings of upward to 100 pounds and farthermost diets that left her "fainting on, like, the spot. I'd be continuing up and then, black out, and not remember anything."[33]

Lake met illustrator Rob Sussman in October 1993, on Halloween. The couple married in Las Vegas on March 26, 1994.[34] They have two sons: Milo Sebastian Sussman (b. March 22, 1997), and Owen Tyler Sussman (b.
